This morning I got an e-mail from a resident concerned about John Bramble's contract, should he become city manager.
Her issue was with a nine-month severance package. Basically, it means if the City Council is unhappy and fires him, he'll still get nine months of pay and benefits.
It's a standard clause with the length of time being the only difference. It typically ranges from six months to a year.

Last night there were two debates. One in Missouri between Delaware Sen. Joe Biden and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin; another in downtown Merced between two candidates for State Assembly and two for Merced County Supervisor.
The two debates differed in style and substance - but a few connections need to be explained. One of the Merced County debate's sponsors used to sponsor presidential debates -- the nonpartisan League of Women Voters.
