At their meeting, Wednesday night, the Merced Union High School District board passed a resolution requiring that the future builder of the Bellevue Road Area High School hire a workforce with at least 50 percent local workers.
The resolution passed 5-0.
Here is the text:

Jesse Chenault, who leads the copy desk, sent me another story with a Merced connection published by The New York Times.
After publishing three stories about Merced County in the last few months, he thinks it's time they just opened a bureau.
"On Parched Farms, Using Intuition to Find Water" highlights a mystical (and questionable) way of finding water beneath ground.

For everyone, easy's getting harder every day.
Few expenses ever become cheaper, and the empty buildings that once housed businesses remind us that less money moving around. It's mostly the worst of times.
I want to know how fellow Mercedians are saving money.
All summer long, my girlfriend and I have been hanging laundry in the backyard, even though there's a dryer in the garage. It cuts down on the PG&E bill.I also don't stop for coffee nearly as often as I did. My driving has definitely declined as well.

On Monday the League of Women Voters and several other local groups held a forum for the Livingston City Council and mayor's race. Nine people are running in the race, but only five deemed the forum important enough to show up. Ida Johnson of the LWV moderated the event, and said that Hardeep Singh Rai, Eldini De Jesus, current Mayor Gurpal Samra, and Margarita Aguilar were all no-shows. And all had been notified of the event. "They all received letters," said Johnson. "That was unusual. Usually they show."
