Boot camp or military academy not for the faint of heart

Whether it's the military or law enforcement, boot camp or academy is no piece of cake. It's rigor with a capital R, designed to weed out those who aren't the most qualified physically or mentally. The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Regional Training Center, in partnership with San Joaquin Delta College, is graduating Police Academy Class 167 on Friday afternoon. A record 59 cadets out of 76 recruits competed 24 weeks of intense physical and mental training.

As examples of the rigor of the program, the class as a group lost a total weight of 408 pounds. Each recruit had approximately 100 hours of structured physical training time and ran approximately 54 miles during the 24-week training program, totaling over 3,100 miles as a group. That sounds like one of those reality TV shows.

54 miles over a 24 week period/ That is a tad over two miles a week? You call that hard? Come on? When i went to Jump school we ran between 3 to five miles a day? When I was with the 18th Airborne we ran any where from 5 to 8 miles a day five day a week..
