Chinese milk recall shows need for tighter regs

The recall on Chinese milk that has sickened hundreds of babies is up to more than 8,000 tons of the tainted formula.
That’s a lot more than was originally thought. The Chinese government is blaming dairy farmers in the country for the problem.
This is China’s second high-profile case in four years involving harmful baby formula. In 2004, more than 200 infants suffered malnutrition, and at least 12 died after being fed phony formula with no nutrients. Some 40 companies were found to be making phony formula, and 47 people were arrested.
As growers in our county have said more than once, the last thing that the U.S. needs is to be dependent on foreign countries for our food.
Face it, folks. Other countries don’t have the strict regulations that we do here in our country. And I can’t think of anything more important than keeping our food safe. Especially the food that is used to feed our babies.
