Death or religious freedom?

Where do religious practices and the health of a child meet? In Wisconsin, an 11-year-old girl recently died because she had Type 1 diabetes. Her parents, instead of getting medical help for the child, prayed for her instead.
The little girl laid for a month in a coma, getting sicker and sicker, until finally the parents called for help.
It was too late. The child died, and now the parents are claiming religious freedom. They say that their right to practice religion gives them the authority to do what they want with their children.
So, what’s the choice? Religion or a child’s life? The freedom of religion is one of the founding fathers basic rights, and the reason that a lot of people originally came to the United States.
But does the freedom of religion mean more than the life of a child? Where are the child’s rights? Or does someone have to be 18 years old before they have any rights.
Just something to think about.

We can require children to be fastened in car seats with seat belts for the child's safety. and not to be shaken or sprayed with high pressure hoses. Why? because the child's right to protection is paramount to the Parents wishes in how to handle them any way they feel is their personal right or personal belief. Religion should be no different when it comes to injury and life threatening treatment or lack thereof. It's the parents right to believe as they wish, but it should stop, when it involves another human's well being, even if it is their own children.
