HOLIDAY TRAVELING

Over the Christmas holiday I traveled by air to Las Vegas to visit
my son, his wife and my 5-year-old grandson. I was supposed to take
off from the Merced airport at 10:58 a.m. but guess what--we didn't
leave until 1:40 p.m. Evidently, our plane was coming from Mexico and
there was ice on the wings. So they had to de-ice the wings before
proceeding to Merced. After we boarded the plane and were on our way to
Visalia to pick up some more passengers, the pilot said we might have
to wait until the fog lifted in Visalia before we could take off.
Well, the five of us holiday passengers weren't very happy, but just
then the pilot said the fog had lifted and we could make our stop in Visalia.
We got to Visalia through a bit of turbulence, and then it was off to
Las Vegas. The flight was a good. The landing in Las Vegas was good
also despite the bit of turbulence on our approach. It felt good to
be on the ground. My daughter-in-law and grandson were there to
greet me. It was cold and quite breezy.
Some people don't like the small planes, but I find them quite
comfortable. You don't have someone right next to you sleeping on your
shoulder or yakking at you constantly when you are trying to relax.
After my stay in Las Vegas it was time to come home, back on a small
plane again, everything going okay except for the paper work for the
luggage that had just been placed on the plane. So we had to wait
another 20-30 minutes before they received the paperwork. After that
everything went smoothly. There was a lot of turbulence once in the
air and then on our approach coming into the Merced airport.
But all in all, the trip was wonderful and full of laughter and good
times. Flying sure beats driving--I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Also, it doesn't make any difference if you are early or late--family
and friends will always be there to pick you up.
Have a good day.
