Here's a fun fact most people probably don't know about what it's like to work at a newspaper.
Sometimes people just call us on the phone to find out the news. It cracks me up. I guess the thinking is, why wait for the paper to come out when you can just call a reporter and get the news?
For example, there's an elderly blind lady who calls the Sun-Star on a regular basis with all manner of news-related questions.
We don't know her name, or where she is exactly, but she says she calls us because she can't read the paper to find out what's going on.
(I do hope she's not totally alone and that she has some family member who can read to her once in a while.)
Last week, I answered her questions about Tuesday's ballot measures.
A colleague who once worked at the Turlock Journal says he used to field calls from another older woman who would call the newspaper to find out what day of the week it was.
Maybe if this whole print thing doesn't work out, newspapers can start providing call-in news service.
