Shame, shame, shame

I pick up a fourth-grader every day after school. He goes to a private school, and generally, it seems that his schooling is pretty good.
Except that this week, when I picked him up, he had a worksheet to study. He was supposed to study the people listed on the sheet. Because he’s in the fourth grade, he’s studying California history.
But if he tries to find the folks listed on this sheet, he’s going to have a hard time. People like Luther Burband or Leland Standford.
Come on, guys. This is California, our own state, and the teacher can’t spell these giants of history?
And maybe one misspelling would be understandable, but two? On one little sheet of study questions?
I think that if this kid tries to look up Luther Burband and Leland Standford, he’s going to need some help from above. But he goes to a parochial school, so he knows how to pray. Good thing, he's going to need it.

Spelling
Reminds me of the time my child brought home a report he had done on "Oshuns" with A+ ... Great Job written all over it. When the teacher was asked why she didn't correct the spelling she said that it wasn't important. She didn't want to stifle his creativity by pointing out spelling errors. After all, anybody that read it knew he was referring to oceans.
