The Obama phenomenon

I don't normally write about national news in this blog, but it's becoming increasingly clear that we as a nation are witnessing something special in the personage of Barack Obama. Just listen to the guy. He inspires people, even if he doesn’t say anything substantial. He draws enormous crowds wherever he goes.

Most of the other candidates in the Democratic race, especially Hillary Clinton, look like dinosaurs by comparison. A friend of mine called it “Clinton fatigue.” As a country, we’ve been there, done that – and while Bill arguably was a better president than Dubya, do we really want to go back to the Clinton days? I don’t think people do.

Americans want something new, refreshing, better. And this guy is providing it in spades, whether he’s the real deal or not.

All of Bill’s horses aren’t going to be able to put Hillary back together if the Obama phenomenon grows. He's energizing the great middle class of this country -- the real people like you and me who together hold the balance of power -- and Hillary is going to have to figure out how to win them back. If she can't, her candidacy is kaput.
